Learning Objectives
1. Describe current developments in clinical and anatomic pathology and
its sub-specialty areas, so that pathologists can practice clinical and
anatomic pathology correctly and errors are avoided.
2. Review tumor markers so that the attendees become familiar with an up
to date understanding of efforts on the discovery and practical fronts relative
to diagnosis of cancer.
3. Discuss prostate cancer screening so that attendees become familiar with
the issues involved in the diagnosis and management of this disease.
4. Review markers for hematologic tumors so that attendees become familiar
with the new advancements in diagnosis of hematologic disorders using biomarkers.
5. Discuss PFA-100 and so that the participants are taken through a review
of rapid platelet function tests that are currently available, with emphasis
on utilization in a clinical laboratory setting.
6. Describe thromboelastography so that attendees become familiar with the
use of this testing in assessing clinical coagulation abnormalities.
7. Apply new immunohistochemical and molecular techniques for the diagnosis
and differential diagnosis of entities in different sub-specialty areas
so that pathologists can specifically pinpoint the diagnosis of anatomic
pathologic lesions and the patients can be treated correctly.
8. Explain the most recent advances in new procedures and techniques in
the diagnosis of pathologic lesions so that the pathologists can add new
tools for correct diagnosis and evaluation of patients.
9. Identify the current concepts in surgical pathology so that the pathologists
can update their knowledge in clinical and anatomic pathology.
10. Describe current developments in anatomic pathology and its sub-specialty
areas so that the pathologists can practice anatomic pathology correctly
and errors are avoided.
