Course Description
Headache is a common complaint upon presentation to the healthcare system. Migraine, the most common, disabling form of headache occurs in 12% of the general population, or greater than 30 million Americans. Evaluation and management of headache disorders is a necessary skill for most healthcare providers.


Target Audience
Physicians in the following specialties: Neurology, Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Also Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, Medical Assistants, Research Coordinators and Research Assistants.

OBJECTIVE: Recognize and manage chronic daily headache syndrome.
OUTCOME: To better evaluate and treat individuals with chronic daily headache syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate and manage headache in the pediatric population.
OUTCOME: To increasingly recognize pediatric headache and better manage headache in the pediatric population.

OBJECTIVE: Identify those individuals who might have a psychiatric comorbidity with a headache disorder.
OUTCOME: To promptly treat and/or refer for evaluation those individuals who might have a psychiatric comorbidity with headache.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate and manage headache disorders in the emergency room.
OUTCOME: To improve management of headache disorders in the emergency department.

OBJECTIVE: Optimize evaluation and management of patients with headache in the primary care setting.
OUTCOME: To improve evaluation and management of patients with headache.

OBJECTIVE: To learn the Pain Management physician's approach to the headache patient.
OUTCOME: To learn the various procedures and their indications for the headache patient.

OBJECTIVE: Cite the resources and tools used to evaluate the individual with headache.
OUTCOME: To better educate individuals with headache to alleviate anxiety and better inform the patient.
