Ophthalmology Grand Rounds
During Ophthalmology Grand Rounds, patients are presented and their
symptoms are discussed and diagnosed by those in attendance. Patients' symptoms
are not announced in advance.
For more information, call Debby McCurdy at 502-852-0710.
Objectives for the Live Rounds:
1. To enhance understanding of clinical history analysis and clinical examination,
particularly with reference to both established and less well established
instruments and ocular data collecting systems. Particularly critical analysis
will be directed toward recently introduced devices and equipment that fall
under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, investigational new devices
classified by increasing risk as I, II, and III.
2. To broaden differential diagnosis in scheduled topical areas such as
introduction of genetic analysis and DNA probes, new staining techniques
utilized to augment clinical understanding, and new radiation examination
as with PET scanning.
3. To analyze current ocular disease related factors of the environment
such as diet, multiple drug use, toxicology, light, genetically determined
and domestically altered aspects in the production of ill health. Concepts
of risk factors and ocular health promotion will be addressed in active
roles of clinical practitioners.
Program content will be significantly guided by utilization of the American
Academy of Ophthalmology ophthalmic content areas. These will be augmented
by personal experiences occurring in the local environment and problems
of concern to local clinicians in daily practice obligations.
