DOMESTIC VIOLENCE -
ONLINE COURSE


PURPOSE & TARGET AUDIENCE
This course provides an in-depth look at the medical, social and legal issues surrounding domestic violence. It fulfills the domestic violence continuing education requirement (Kentucky Regulatory Statute 194) for health care professionals in the state of Kentucky. The target audience is physicians and other healthcare professionals who routinely interact with patients (some of whom may be victims of domestic violence).


CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT
Physician - University of Louisville Continuing Health Sciences Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3.0 hours in Category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. The University of Louisville School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.


INSTRUCTIONS
The course takes approximately three hours. During the course, you will watch a lecture. After reviewing the lecture and an accompanying handout, you will have the option of paying to take an online test and receiving continuing education credit.

If you pass the test, you will be instantly taken to a web page confirming your continuing education credit. You will need to print this page for your records. If you do not pass, you may retake the course as many times as necessary at no additional charge.

Viewing the lecture is free; the fee for taking the test and receiving continuing education credit is $25.00 and is payable with Mastercard, Visa, or Discover. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Following this course participants will have a better understanding of:

  • Recognizing adult and child victimization.

  • Identifying behavioral and emotional indicators of patients who may be victims of abuse, neglect or explotation.

  • Statistics about victims of domestic violence and the role of health care professionals to help lower the abuse of victims.

  • The integral role of health care professionals in domestic violence in identifying intervention strategies including legal remedies, reporting responsibilities and liabilities, and community service for patients.


HARDWARE & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

In order to take this course, you must have a PC that runs Windows XP and has at least 500 MB of RAM. You must have a broadband internet connection or better; the course will not work with a dialup internet connection. You must also have the following programs installed: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Windows Media Player 10.0 or higher and Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 or higher.

An alternate solution is to go to the Start menu on your desktop, select run, then type in mplayer2.exe and click ok. This will open a different version of Windows Media Player.
