RECOGNIZING & RESPONDING TO THE
THREAT OF BIOTERRORISM

The course's purpose is to provide education to healthcare professionals
that will aid in the recognition of clinical symptoms associated with biothreat
agents versus symptoms associated with the flu or other symptomatic conditions,
as well as the appropriate response to a bioterrorist attack. This free
course (which includes dinner) is designed for physicians in internal medicine,
pathology, emergency medicine, infectious disease, general practice, family
medicine, pediatrics and dermatology.
Following this course healthcare professionals should be able to:
- Identify the spectrum of bioterrorism associated threats.
- Recognize the clinical symptoms associated with biothreat agents.
- Appropriately notify and submit clinical specimens from suspect cases
to a microbiology lab.
- Describe the reporting systems and infrastructure of regional and national
healthcare networks.
- Discuss the lessons learned from the recent CDC bioterrorism exercise.

Category 1 Credit: The University of Louisville Office of Continuing

of Category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each
